Your key responsibilities as a Tax Controversy Lawyer
In this role, you will assist clients in preparing for and resolving disputes with the ATO and State/Territory revenue authorities. Your responsibilities will include managing complex reviews and audits, drafting objections, briefing counsel, and engaging in alternative dispute resolution processes and tax litigation in both State and Federal courts. This position offers the chance to collaborate with various clients and subject matter experts, enhancing your written and oral advocacy and dispute resolution skills while providing legal advice in taxation and administrative law.
Requirements
Candidates applying for the Tax Controversy Lawyer role should have prior experience in corporate tax, international tax, tax law, or tax dispute resolution, ideally from a Big 4 firm, law firm, or the Australian Taxation Office, with Big 4 experience being particularly advantageous. You must demonstrate the ability to quickly and efficiently analyse information, utilising innovative and creative solutions to address client issues.
Strong problem-solving skills are essential for understanding and meeting client needs, along with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients even after projects are completed. Experience in Australian and/or other Commonwealth country legal systems is also required.
